Constitution Hill

The Constitution Hill tells the story of South Africa's turbulent past and how South Africa transitioned to democracy. This historical landmark is located just a kilometre away for The Devonshire.

It is a National Heritage site that bore witness to 100 years of SA's history.

From the fight between the Boers and the British soldiers, to the youth Soweto Uprising, to the beginning of democracy and the building of South Africa's Constitutional Court, Constitution Hill has been at the centre of it all.

Tour the Constitution Hill and learn the history of South African democracy by observing the manner by which freedom was regained and is now protected.

The Constitution Hill has the following exhibitions and museums you can engage:

The Number Four

This is the dark heart of Constitution Hill where visitor learn how the apartheid system made criminals of black men and what being at the bottom of the racial hierarchy means azithromycin zithromax.

The Old Fort

Paul Kruger used this building as a fortress during the Anglo Boer War. This was a whites only prison where only 1 black person, Nelson Mandela was ever held.

The Women's Gaol

This prison where many political activists like Albertina Sisulu , Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, Fatima Meer were held.

Constitutional Court

This is South Africa's highest court. It is the guardian of the basic human rights and freedom South Africans have fought for and won.
