Hospitality is not just about a smiling face - By Njabulo Ngcobo
Hotel receptionists are those smiling people who help guests make a reservation and welcome them to the hotel when they check in. with the hospitality and tourism industries expected to grow in the coming years, this is a career that has many opportunities.
As Braamfontein in Johannesburg benefits from an urban renewal programme, the Devonshire Hotel, one of the oldest in the area, is being renovated, refurbished and revitalized. With a heritage dating back to the 1930s, the Dev began its latest refurbishment programme in March.
The Hotel has been a Braamfontein landmark since the 1930’s. Early photographs depict a two-storey brick building under an iron room, with plastered walls. Judging by the average monthly beer trade of over 82 pounds, the Hotel was a favourite local watering hole, a reputation it still preserves to this day.
If you work in downtown Jozi and are on the lookout for a local after work watering hole where you can go to unwind then look no further than Bellissimo Pizzeria.
The Devonshire Hotel is currently undergoing general maintenance and renovations. The construction work being undertaken will not affect the guest stay. Construction work will be carried out from 08h00 to 16h30 Monday for Friday and noise levels will be kept to a minimum. Wi-Fi will only be available in public areas. We do apologize for any inconvenience caused.
